21 Degrees

This is what 21 degrees looks like at my house right now …

It’s still so very pretty …

Cold!  Here is just a small amount of ice on our pond:

But pretty … and no snow to shovel!!  Woohoo!!!

We’re getting ready for the Christmas holiday by decorating the house a little … the tree is up … our elf Chipper found us a couple mornings ago … and there are lots of activities here this weekend.  We’ll get to see Santa!!!!

Life is good …

This is winter?!

While the leaves may have fallen from most of the trees, it still does not feel like winter to this Alaskan girl.

The views are spectacular on sunny days like today!

I found myself looking up …

I was looking up a lot!

There was not a cloud in the sky, so my view was of tree tops.  And they were all smiling today.

We went to church here in Carlton for the first time today with our neighbors.  It was so nice to sing and share in that environment.  We’ll definitely go back.

Tomorrow we begin Thanksgiving break.  Yes … and entire week off school … which means a total of 9 days with the kiddos … I’ll deserve a medal after this!!! Winking smile

have a fantastic week!!!!

Where Have We Been???

Where have we been????
Certainly not out here in the blogosphere … oops!!!

We’re taking life one day at a time and enjoying simple things as much as we can.  Soccer season finished and now we are focusing more on reading and homework and just playing without time constraints.

As I type this, I sit in my pajamas drinking coffee and see that the clock shows after the noon hour … except we just ate breakfast.  It’s a beautiful thing. Smile

This boy had a birthday …

And my sister came to visit …

We went to the beach one day … ahhh …

And we even went to the big city of Portland!

Now that it’s actually winter here in Oregon, I guess I had better dress warmer.  I even decided to get an electric blanket.  All of my lifetime has been spent in Alaska so far without any such device … and now?  I find it’s just the right thing to do if I want to get to sleep comfortably.  Interesting how we change over time.

Even though it’s overcast today and I don’t see blue sky, I know it’s there and I’ll see it soon.

It’s a very beautiful thing!
Make today a terrific day!!!!!!!

Something to Say

I read a blog entry the other day ( a few of them actually) and they all made me realize that sometimes I write and I truly have nothing of real importance to say.

What has happened to my mind?!

This is representative of how I feel when I try to sit down and write … I pull my hair out because I rarely can muster one complete thought … instead there are various small and random things running through my head constantly:

need to do the dishes
laundry still in the washer
toilets haven’t been cleaned
when was the last time I vacuumed???
boys need to read
client work is piling up
I need down time!
(what exactly is down time again???)
are the boys playing video games again?!

Then I have days like Friday … we took family portraits that I had actually purchased months ago, but never took the time to schedule and attend.  Finally I did and Friday was the day.

The morning was a bit challenging … the boys were out of school for in-service and they wanted to play … and nothing else.  They didn’t want to wear what I set out for them … they didn’t want to comb their hair … they didn’t want to drive an hour to get their pictures taken … and they really just didn’t want to cooperate in any way with Mom.

But somehow when we arrived and met our photographer, that changed.  And this is the result of that time:

It was an amazing time … we have some wonderful and beautiful photos representing our family and we left there very happy.

It was a great day. Smile

Random Thought Thursday

A beautiful view from the soccer field last night in Mac ...

the boys got to run around and play with some friends after Payton's game

simply gorgeous scenery

Although we aren't taking as many photos as we used to, or I would like to, we are still capturing our lives a couple times each week.

this is me at work

Visit with Mom

Mom came to visit us and we had such a nice time – of course we didn’t take enough photos. Winking smile  You can never ever take enough.

We did have fun playing in front of the camera on her last day however – the boys were just goofy!

She and I took off to the coast one day – we visited Lincoln City and the weather was just FABULOUS!!

The wind was blowing just lightly – the air was warm – the salty smell captivated us – so much so that we drenched our feet and shoes and pants in the surf!  We didn’t even notice the tide coming … it was pretty funny.

It’s now the beginning of another week – school, soccer, work and appointments.  Yesterday was what we call around here a “down day”.  The boys played – even had a friend over – and I picked up a little, but mostly sat around.  I even read some in a book!

It was a great way to relax before getting back into the swing. Smile

Thursday Thoughts

The weather in wine country Oregon has been simply fantastic and amazing!  Although a bit too hot for this northern girl, I am enjoying what I can and staying in the shade as much as possible.

Views like this will never ever make me sad:

This may not be the mountain range that I’ve grown up with my entire life, but it is mountain none-the-less and it makes me smile.  (pardon the dirty windshield please)

Here’s something to consider today and every day:

People are just as happy as they make up their minds to be.

I hope you choose happy!

Weekend Catchup

Another weekend has come and gone and we stayed busy as usual.  The boys received a movie in the mail they have been waiting for weeks to own … “Nacho Libre”!!!  (because we simply have not seen this one enough … allegedly …)

(Payton is reciting most of the movie in this photo)

Payton got to fly to Alaska!!  He was so excited.  Jarrett and I were sad for ourselves, but very happy for this brave young man.

Jarrett and I went to a demolition derby!  That was fun.  (I think we both agreed that watching fast cars race without wrecking was more fun though.)

And I attempted to make dinner one evening in a hurry … this is what happens when you rush … like I haven’t already done this 9 million times …

And so we are back in the swing of things with school and work and friends AND now soccer!!!!  Let’s go boys!!!!!!

Have a great week everyone!!!

On the drive …

This is beautiful scenery.

While I do miss seeing the Alaskan mountains, I am very impressed by seeing a sky like this almost every single day.

First Day of School

Yesterday was the first day of school … and it was a great day!!!  Both boys are happy with their teachers and friends they have in class.

We ended the day by getting library cards in Mac and checking out two books.

A wonderful way to start an amazing year of learning!

One Last Hoorah

It’s a beautiful thing … tomorrow the boys start school … both of them!

Right now I’m not quite sure who is more excited … oh wait, yes I do … I sure do … Winking smile

This past weekend we took a road trip and got to see some friends and car races – it was a fun time and a great way to finish off the summer festivities!

We got to swim in the hotel pool …

And we watched some stock car races …

We met Chad who drives the Lexar #33 car and he let us sit IN his car after the race!  The race he won on Saturday night no less.

It’s time to turn in for tomorrow we start a new schedule of getting up early, making lunches and heading off to learn great new things!

Let the school year begin!!!
